The Grant is established in honour of the Late Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye whose passion for and commitment to entrepreneurship saw him run a range of businesses during his career.

UPG Biashara entrepreneurs have a great reason to celebrate and rejoice as the Prince Adebajo Babington- Ashaye Business Grant will be awarded for the THIRD consecutive year. This is a great opportunity for aspiring UPG entrepreneurs to apply for the Grant and stand a chance to win USD 5000. Recognising the tremendous potential and passion possessed by emerging UPG Biashara entrepreneurs,the Prince Adebajo Babington- Ashaye Business Grant was established to provide vital financial resources to turn their ideas into reality. The Grant is established in honour of the Late Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye whose passion for and commitment to entrepreneurship saw him run a range of businesses during his career. His ingenuity and brilliance were evident in his professional achievements, and he gained a reputation for being the go-to person when it came to revitalizing and saving struggling businesses. He consistently managed to harmonize the interests of investors, employees, and other stakeholders, solidifying his name as a symbol of resourcefulness and success. Late Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye valued the fusion of excellence and a strong work ethic, along with a sincere dedication to serving others. He embodied bravery in his decision-making and emphasized the significance of learning from failures. Even in sports, he demonstrated a tenacious competitive spirit and achieved numerous records at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club. In philanthropy, he generously supported individuals and organizations at various stages. As a result of these exceptional qualities that Prince Adebajo Abiodun Babington-Ashaye possessed, the grantees will also be expected to demonstrate these qualities.

The successful grantee will embody a winning combination of the following criteria:

Demonstrates a professional approach to serving customers and users of the product or service; Demonstrates a professional approach to serving customers and users of the product or service; Exhibits a commitment to integrity through proper accounting practices, realistic financial statements, and projections; Displays courage in relation to their business ideas, such as making significant commitments to the business, investing their own resources, and taking calculated and sensible risks to support the business; Demonstrates a dedication to excellence in all aspects of the business, whether it be the design of the product or service, realistic ambitions, or the integration of sustainability thinking; Rewards creativity by acknowledging innovative aspects within the product, service, or entrepreneurship approach.

Eligibility for the Grant is open to individuals of all ages and business stages, regardless of their location worldwide. However, only certified UPG Biashara entrepreneurs are eligible to apply. Grants are awarded during the “Action Journey” phase of the UPG Biashara experience, providing recipients with further support and guidance for their entrepreneurship pursuits.

UPG Biashara is an online free entrepreneurship programme by United People Global. This initiative aims to empower aspiring entrepreneurs from across all walks of life by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to start a business and also strengthen existing businesses. UPG Biashara gives an opportunity to connect with a vibrant community of fellow learners, mentors and industry professional through discussions and debates. The Prince Adebajo Babington- Ashaye Business Grant is an ongoing commitment to promote entrepreneurship and contribute to the growth of the business community.

The product or service must have a positive impact on the local communities of the inventor and the potential to assist those in the global community. A product or service that strives for the betterment of lives in both the local and global communities is imperative.

Meet the Winner of 2022

As the first recipient of the Maxine’s Village Grant, he finds the opportunity a great honour from the grantors who he has great respect and love for. The grant, will enable Afredia to develop her innovative tech platforms which include a hybrid website and mobile applications. The grant will also set Afredia running and cater to its foundational needs including staff renumeration. Samuel believes Maxine’s Village Grant will greatly contribute to his works of impact done for young Africans through the symbiotic relationship between Afredia and her sister organization; PAN – as Afredia aims to commit some percentage of its earnings to the development works of PAN. He encourages young people to embrace entrepreneurship skills especially through the UPG Biashra programme.

Olalekan Samuel Ajayi

Olalekan Samuel Ajayi is a graduate of Law from the University of Lagos, Nigeria He is a United People Global Sustainability Leader as well as a UPG Biashara Entrepreneur.

As a big believer in young people and their capacity to deliver transformative change, he founded Project Africa Now (PAN) in 2020. PAN is a youth-led organization using media to drive and inspire young Africans towards creating positive change. PAN has positively impacted over 2,700 young Africans from 18 countries. He is a recipient of over 30 honorary awards and once spoke at an auditorium of 50,000 people at the age of 17.

Samuel believes the media is the greatest tool in the hands of young Africans who form the largest youth group in the world. Capitalizing on this huge market, he is building Afredia, a media company which will be Africa’s first youth focused media portfolio curating news and youth-culture contents for young people. Afredia is passionate about youth culture, news and Africanness believing their ideas shape the future.

He believes Maxine’s Village Business Grant will not only help his entrepreneurship pursuits but also contribute to social good through the symbiotic relationship between Afredia and PAN. Samuel encourages young people to embrace entrepreneurship as a tool to make the world a better place especially through the UPG Biashara programme.

Coming from humble beginnings, he hopes to be a symbol of hope for young Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds by showing them through his works that there is no limit to what they can achieve.
